Step 1: Gather Supplies
Collect dish soap, a sponge or scrub brush, a drying rack, and clean towels. Use rubber gloves if preferred to protect hands from hot water.

Step 2: Prepare the Sink
Fill one side of the sink or a large basin with hot water and a few drops of dish soap. Fill the other side with clean water for rinsing.

Step 3: Scrape and Sort
Scrape leftover food into the trash or compost. Sort dishes by type—glasses, utensils, plates, and cookware—to wash in order from cleanest to dirtiest.

Step 4: Wash
Submerge each item in soapy water. Use the sponge or brush to scrub away grease and residue. Pay extra attention to corners and edges.

Step 5: Rinse
Dip or rinse each dish in clean water to remove soap. Check for any remaining spots or food particles.

Step 6: Dry
Place dishes on a drying rack to air dry, or use a clean towel to hand dry them.

Step 7: Clean Up
Empty and rinse the sink, wash the sponge, and wipe down the counter area to finish.
